Took a cooking class with Mr. P today. Chicken, polenta, and a green bean salad. Always fun to learn new techniques and recipes. Lesson one- use kosher salt when cooking. Lesson two- turn food only once. Lesson three- eat more polenta- it’s good!  358/365

Prepping for Thanksgiving is always fun.  Shopping, baking, cooking- always so much to do and so many reasons to be grateful.  Today, on the day before, my sweet girl and I prepared the stuffing using mom’s secret recipe, and also made a cheesecake for the first time.  I also set the table with long-used family china and carefully pressed Autumn leaves from last year.  Bring on the Turkey tomorrow!  Wherever you are- in the States or in the world, wishing you a very lovely Thanksgiving.  On this day especially, and everyday in general- there is much to be thankful for. 328/365mpi3652016-day-328

I love a good long vacation when I don’t have to cook.  That said, it’s so great to come home and make dinner for the family.  Tonight, Broccoli Cheddar Soup from scratch.  Love this recipe, and just a pinch of chill in the air to make dinner on the porch delightful.  235/365.mpi3652016 day 235.jpg

For the last couple of years, I’ve been trying to add a new dish to our family cookbook each Sunday.  Favorites so far this year have been broccoli cheddar soup, beef stew, and shepard’s pie 122/365.  What’s your favorite recipe?mpi3652016 day 122

All is well until your son comes home from school to ask, “what smells so good?”- and you realize those muffins have been in the oven for about 5 minutes too long… good save.  I have to re-think that notion that timers are sissy.  104/365.mpi3652016 day 104.jpg

Is so much more than the bunny.  It’s family, faith and food.  Easter morning=hot cross buns.  Hope your Easter was a lovely one. 87/365mpi3652016 day 87.jpg

This is the best cookie if you love chocolate.  Triple chocolate cookies courtesy of The Pioneer Woman.  2.5 sticks of butter- that’s all?cookcocoa powder, semi sweet chips, milk chocolate chips-cookies365MPI36520106They’ll all be gone tomorrow.  68/365.

With an egg wash.  Let’s just say they were a hit.  I paired these with fried chicken- which I made for the first time EVER! Seriously, EVER!  (I grew up on pot roast and potatoes- Irish roots)  I was unable to document the fried chicken because my family ate the chicken almost before it was on the table.  Next time.  I guarantee there will be a next time:) 62/365MPI3652016day62.jpg
